Spire Brewery
was established in the Spring of 2006 by David McLaren, a
passionate devotee of Real Ale.
David
is a former secondary school teacher with a penchant for brewing great-tasting beer.
His vision for the brewery
is very much about producing top-quality beers using the finest natural ingredients – only malt, hops, yeast & water
- with absolutely NO artificial additives!
The brewery sources its malt from Thomas Fawcett & Sons in Castleford, Yorkshire’s only surviving traditional maltster, whilst the hops come from Charles Faram & Co Ltd in Malvern, Worcestershire.
The 10-barrel brewing plant was
custom-built for the brewery in order to meet David's exacting
requirements for the production of high-quality real ales.
Spire Brewery is very conscious of environmental issues and endeavours to brew with maximum water and power efficiency. This is also reflected in the aim of supplying beers
mainly to a local market thus reducing “beer miles”.
Now a
well-established and award-winning concern,
Spire Brewery has gone from strength to strength, expanding its
production and opening its first Brewery Tap -
The Britannia - in August 2007.
So, no matter if you're a real ale enthusiast, an
occasional drinker, or simply want to try something new, you're
assured of a very warm welcome from David and his staff at both
the brewery and "The Brit"!
