Owner
and Head Brewer, David McLaren, first mulled over the idea of
setting up a brewery during a visit to Sheffield Beer Festival in
September 2005.
As a home brewer with over 30 years experience, David thought he’d
like to give professional brewing a serious try, and a chance meeting at the festival with
a representative from Sheffield Business Link soon put the wheels in motion.
After a thorough search,
fledgling premises were chosen and a 10-barrel brewing plant
sourced from the David Porter Brewing Installation Company.
David then powered up Spire Brewery's mash tun and copper for the first
brew in March 2006, almost six months to the day after the first
twinkle in his eye - an amazingly short gestation!

Spire Brewery
from start to finish here.
The brewery is located in two adjacent industrial units in Staveley, near Chesterfield. The brewhouse
is situated in one, the other accommodating a fermenting room, a chilled conditioning area and a small bar.
And now, thanks to
steadily increasing demand, Spire Brewery is now seeking larger premises to include additional space for fermenting, storage and
bottling.
What are other people saying?..
Every so often Spire
Brewery is visited by people who go on to write about us in the
Press. Wherever possible, we'll publish those articles here!
