A little bit of history...

Spire Brewery is pleased to announce that its first pub, The Britannia on Ward Street, New Tupton, is open for business!

This has been made possible by the fact that Barry Dobson (yet another ex-teacher and long time friend / home-brewer from University days) joined the Brewery in 2007, and has taken overall responsibility for running the pub side of the operation.

Barry, a keen real-ale enthusiast (what else..?), will also bring his own degree of expertise to the brewery as he is a Biochemist by profession and hopes to set up laboratory facilities with the aim of further enhancing the brewery's output.

High Quality, Excellent Service, Value for Money and Choice will always be the watchwords at "The Brit".  And you will always enjoy a full measure at the Britannia as all of our beers are served in oversize glasses marked clearly in third, half and full pints.  Most pubs serve their beer in glasses that must be filled to the brim for a full measure - if you want a good frothy head on your beer it could cost you 10% of the price you pay!  Not at the Brit - you will always get what you paid for!

Our objective is to create a real Community Pub - and not just for local residents, but for everyone in the wider Chesterfield area and beyond.

... and big plans for the future!

Our intended programme of refurbishment for The Britannia is ongoing and will not be completed for some time.

Nevertheless, we can assure all of you, our valued customers, a very warm welcome, and hope that you will bear with us during the period of renovation.

Once the initial improvements are completed, we have plans to install a fully operational kitchen so that we can also offer a range of freshly-prepared food.

Where is The Britannia?

How do I get there?

New Tupton is situated approximately 4 miles south of Chesterfield just off the main A61 Derby Road. 

By car from Chesterfield

Head South from Chesterfield along the A61.  At the New Tupton roundabout, turn left and go down the hill.  Turn right, up the hill when you reach the Church and the Primary School.  Take the second left (just before Tupton Fish Bar) and The Britannia is just down the hill on the left hand side of the road.

By bus from Chesterfield (the preferred method)

The main service to New Tupton is by the Stagecoach bus #51.  Download the pdf file for full details.  Alight on Green Lane, turn left at Tupton Fish Bar and walk down Ward Street for 200m.
