Hops and malt in perfect harmony...
The Building of Spire Brewery - Start to Finish...
March 2006 - the Spire Brewery door opens for the first time.
Construction begins with the area set aside for the hot water tank, mash tun and copper.
Delivery of the 10-barrel brewing plant from David Porter Brewing Installation Company.
The copper is carefully lifted from the lorry.
The mash tun and copper come ready clad.  The hot water tank remains naked - for now.
Building a spillage retaining wall in the fermentation room to house the two stainless-steel fermentation tanks.
The hot water tank in a state of undress...
...but on goes the insulation...
...and finally the wood cladding.
Time for lunch - fish & chips all round!
Cleaning the inside of the copper - carefully completed before every brew.
Plumbing in the wort chiller to recycle heat back to the hot water tank.
Almost there, just the finishing touches and tidy-up to go...
..and ready-for-action at last!
Malted barley from Thomas Fawcett & Sons and Hops from Charles Faram & Co Ltd.
All hands on deck!  Brewing begins...
...the mash tun producing the wort to be passed to the copper for boiling...
...and after a few days in the fermentation room, plus a few more in casks for perfect conditioning, the finished product is ready.
Opening Day!  The Mayor of Chesterfield and his wife pay us a visit to cut the ribbon!
Spire Brewery's on-site bar, with Barry Dobson and David McLaren in residence...
...and Spire Brewery firkins, ready for filling and delivery...
...especially to here - The Britannia in New Tupton - Spire Brewery's first pub and brewery tap.  Why not pay us a visit soon?
