March 2006 - the
Spire Brewery door opens for the first time. |
| Construction
begins with the area set aside for the hot water tank, mash
tun
and copper. |
Delivery of the
10-barrel brewing plant from David Porter Brewing Installation
Company. |
| The copper is
carefully lifted from the lorry. |
The mash tun and
copper come ready clad. The hot water tank remains naked -
for now. |
| Building a
spillage retaining wall in the fermentation room to house the
two stainless-steel fermentation tanks. |
The hot water tank in a state of
undress... |
| ...but on goes
the insulation... |
...and finally
the wood cladding. |
| Time for lunch -
fish & chips all round! |
Cleaning the
inside of the copper - carefully completed before every brew. |
| Plumbing in the
wort chiller to recycle heat back to the hot water tank. |
Almost there, just the finishing touches and
tidy-up to go... |
..and ready-for-action at last! |
Malted barley from
Thomas Fawcett & Sons and Hops from Charles
Faram & Co Ltd. |
All hands on deck! Brewing begins... |
...the mash tun producing the wort to be passed to the copper for boiling... |
...and after a few days in the fermentation
room, plus a few more in casks for perfect conditioning, the finished
product is ready. |
